If you have a child with special needs then be very careful about placing them in this school. The school seems to absorb more behavior problem children in overcrowded classes which proves overwhelming for the inexperienced and uninformed teachers. This school changes principals every couple of years. The children usually appear bored and unengaged. Some children are frequently very disruptive but nothing is done to remove them from class. Nothing extra for bright children.

The teachers at PS 59 are nothing short of wonderful! They are caring, dedicated and bright. The downside to PS 59 is the over crowded classrooms and lack of a gym.

The teachers are wonderful and definitely know about positive teaching techniques that make the child confident and comfortable in learning. * In 2006-2007 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, in grades 4 and 8 in science and in grades 5 and 8 in social studies.
