My child just started his first year of high shcool at Art and Design, and I have had one teacher parent meeting so far. I feel that there are too many students for the teachers to teach properly. The history teacher and math teachers were exceptional I thought.

It is a safe school with a strong academic program with college preparatory and AP classes. It has an extraordinary four year program in design with double period classes every day for 4 years with five majors to choose from. This school changed my son's life. He became an artist and learned amazing things about himself. The teachers were interesting, most of the time, and the college office got him into a great college. This school is a hidden gem in Manhattan.

Don't wate your time, this school really isn't as excellent as it was 5 years ago. FOr 3 years that i have attented there was no permenant principal and the school didn't provide anything for students in terms of aceidemics or guidiance. The bottom line I only have fond memories from a few of my teachers and friends. The school diversity is the only good thing. The school needs to fix its academics, art courses, majority of the teachers need to be reviewed and the classroom equipments.

* In 2005-2006 New York used the New York State Regents Examinations to test high school students in English language arts, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics and several foreign languages. The results for English language arts, math, living environment, chemistry, earth science and physics are displayed in GreatSchools profiles.
